"To be fair, Darby was professional, responsive, and took the time to contact State Farm underwriting to answer my questions. My three-star rating reflects my experience with State Farm's underwriting process and the outcome, not Darby's professionalism or willingness to assist.

I have been a State Farm customer for approximately 39 years, with homeowners, auto, and umbrella coverage across multiple states. When I recently sought new home and auto coverage in Montana, I was disappointed to learn that State Farm would not even provide a quote unless I authorized access to consumer-report information, including credit information.

To be clear, I have very good credit. My objection was not about what State Farm might find. It was a matter of principle. After nearly four decades as a State Farm customer, I did not believe access to my credit information should be a prerequisite simply to receive a quote, particularly given State Farm's extensive history with me as an insured customer.

I understand that State Farm is permitted to use credit-based information as part of its underwriting process in Montana. My concern is that my longstanding insurance history and existing relationship were not sufficient to provide an alternative path to obtain a quote without authorizing access to my credit information.

I ultimately obtained the Montana home and auto coverage through another insurer.

After approximately 39 years with State Farm, I expected the customer relationship and history to carry considerably more weight. This experience was disappointing and ultimately caused State Farm to lose my new Montana business."
